A Word Before You Begin
1 The Situation
"Something happened in the course of living — a moment, an encounter, a feeling that surfaced and stayed. Something your heart or body is still holding, and that deserves a closer look. Describe it plainly."
"You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar."
Psalm 139:1–2 · He already sees it. You are not telling Him anything new.
2 What You Felt First
"Before your mind made sense of it — what rose up in you first? Name it without judgment."
"When Jesus saw her weeping… he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled."
John 11:33 · Jesus felt before He spoke. So can you.

Select any that apply, write in your own words below, or both — there is no right way.

3 What Your Body Held

You've already begun noticing your body. Let's stay there a little longer.

"Where did you feel this in your body? What sensation was present?"
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you?"
1 Corinthians 6:19 · The body is not separate from the soul. It keeps the record.
Throat — tightness, words held
Chest — constriction, weight
Stomach — dropping, knotting
Jaw — clenching, grinding
Shoulders — bracing, raising
Heart — ache, warmth, flutter
Eyes — burning, blurring
Hands — gripping, withdrawing
Head — pressure, fog, buzzing
Nowhere — I felt numb or flat
4 What It Stirred
"Might this be activating an older wound or belief? What does part of you sense is true about yourself right now?"
"Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me."
Psalm 139:23–24 · He is not afraid of what He finds. Neither need you be.
5 The Invitation
"What might your true self be saying to you through this? What might the Holy Spirit be guiding you toward? Not to condemn — but to heal, invite, or move you toward more freedom."
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28 · The invitation is always the same. You are always welcome to come.
✦ Synthesis
What will you carry forward?
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him." Romans 8:28 · Even this. Even here. He is at work.

After sitting with all of this — what is the one thing you want to remember? A word. An image. A release. A resolve. Perhaps something you noticed in creation today that speaks to where you are.
